Finding Dory will center around, you guessed it, Dory and her journey which reunites her with her loved ones.   From the press release:

According to Stanton, “Finding Dory” takes place about a year after the first film, and features returning favorites Marlin, Nemo and the Tank Gang, among others. Set in part along the California coastline, the story also welcomes a host of new characters, including a few who will prove to be a very important part of Dory’s life.

There’s still some time to wait though, as it won’t be released until November 25, 2015, but what’s another couple of years?

Check out this video from Ellen’s show this morning were she announces the film and reminisces on the (many) times she’s made the point that Nemo was still sequel-less.

By far one of the best animated shorts I’ve ever seen.

The best animated film I saw this year wasn’t feature length.  It was John Kahrs‘ short film, Paperman.  The short follows the story of a lonely young man in New

 York City, whose destiny takes an unexpected turn after a chance meeting with a beautiful woman on his morning commute. Convinced the girl of his dreams is gone forever, he gets a second chance when he spots her in a skyscraper window across the avenue from his office, and sets out to get her attention.  Using a revolutionary technique of blending 2D and 3D, Paperman isn’t only gorgeous, but it’s also hopelessly romantic.  I felt bad for Wreck-It Ralph since it had to follow this short.

Kosinski said in the interview with Collider that he’s not falling back on his laurels from Tron: Legacy, but plans to create something totally different of the World of Tron this time around:

“I don’t want to say too much about it but the goal would not be to simply re-use.  We’re not going to re-use the assets from Legacy, that’s no fun.  If we’re going to do to it we’re going to reinvent all over again and it’s going to be a whole new generation for reasons that are very story-driven.  That’s all I can say.”

A major part of this will be the timeline, which will stay current:

“It feels like we’re kind of real-time in step. So however much time has passed since Legacy came out would also have transpired in the real world. So it will still be contemporary. So let’s say if the Tron sequel comes out in 2015, then four or five years have passed since the last movie.”

He also has some major faith in the power of the TRON franchise and thus plans to take his time with the project and create each element carefully, which means no immediate plans to begin production are in effect:

“I’ve said it would have to be our Empire Strikes Back for me to come back and for me to pull the whole team back together. I think we do have that idea. We do have the idea that feels big and really blows the doors off this franchise. It’s hinted at promises of something for two movies now, for thirty years, so it’s time to deliver on that. But the script’s got to be at a level that makes it worth going back for, because it’s a lot of work to make a movie like this and it’s a multi-year project. So we’ve got our writer Jesse Wigutow on it right now writing, and fingers crossed if it all comes together, as we hope it will, there could be another Tron in the next few years, and it’s going to be awesome.”

The movie, Newt, focused on the comedic yet tense relationship between the last male and female blue-footed newts after they are brought together by scientists to repopulate the species, despite the fact that they can’t stand each other. When the creators got wind of an outside production with almost the same plot, Rio, the film was scraped.

Mark Romanek

Director Mark Romanek has dropped out of the live adaptation of Cinderella he has working on alongside Disney.

The split from the project is rumored to have been caused by artistic differences. Romanek, the director of films like One Hour Photo and Never Let Me Go, envisioned a much darker version of the tale than Disney was willing to allow. We think there are some dark elements on the tale that definitely need to be exposed, but this still has the Disney name attached and will be expected to cater to family audiences, meaning it can’t go it Snow White and the Huntsman territory.

However, the show will go on. Disney is currently looking for another director for the movie and Cate Blanchett is still attached to play the evil stepmother. There have been auditions for the role of Cinderella, but no decision has been announced.
