10 Bad Disney Moments

Serious spoiler alert here!  If you are unfamiliar with a number of Disney films, you may want to proceed with caution.  A while back Top Ten Things compiled a list of what they believed were some of the darkest and more horrific moments in Disney’s films, see 10-6 below.

10. Bambi

Bambi’s mother was quite an influential character throughtout the movie until she died. She always tried to teach Bambi the ways of the forest. Her death was definitely quite disturbing for all the viewers. Once they both are in the woods he senses danger. She saves Bambi by telling him to run and not to turn back, but she herself is hunt by the hunters. The scene when he does not find his mother by his side and calls out for her but gets no answer is very sad.

9. Pinocchio

We all know the Pinocchio is the story of the puppet who becomes a real boy. But the trials he goes through in order to become a real boy are unbelievably tough. From the trap of the con artists to the problems of Pleasure Island to the horrifying giant whale. The giant whale swallows Geppetto, his maker, who had been trying to rescue Pinocchio from Pleasure Island. Pinocchio sacrifices his life in order to save Geppetto. This is where The Blue Fairy, sees how selfless Pinocchio is, brings him back to life and finally, turns him into a real boy! A happy ending but after a lot of tough trials.

8. Mulan

This one is a short scene in Mulan but is still quite cruel. This scene shows two Imperial scouts that have been captured by Shan-Yu, the Hun leader. He asks them to deliver a message to the Emperor of China. As they run away, Shan-Yu asks one of his comrades how many messengers it takes to deliver a message. The comrade draws back his arrow and replies, “One.” This was a terrifying scene that shows how little the human life valued to the opposite group.

7. The Fox and the Hound

This movie took a great turn when Copper’s mentor Chief, gets hit by a train in a mishap caused by Tod. Copper wants to “get him.” Copper’s owner sets a trap and Tod is trapped. They clash and fight, forgetting their childhood friendship. Tod escapes after a black bear suddenly appears, and Copper tries to defend his owner. Tod seeing his friend in problem returns and gets rid of bear. The ending is also not that ‘happily ever after’, as we see Tod and Copper are in their respective homes. An old conversation is played —“We’ll always be friends forever, won’t we?” says Tod. “Yeah,” replies Copper. “Forever.”

6. Lilo & Stitch

he dark moment of Lilo & Stitch is quite different from the rest. It is about the pain of a broken family. Nani has to prove that she can take care of her little sister all by herself. She also gets Lilo a pet, Stitch which turns out to be an alien. Stitch becomes the cause of some more problems, and the social worker tells Nani that Lilo would be better off without her. Stitch sees what he has done and the consequences of it. Lilo tells him, “I’ll remember you; I remember everybody who leaves.” This is a sad moment which is about loneliness, fitting in and about the need of a family bonding etc. This was darkness of its own kind.

This is already kind of depressing, isn’t it?  Well you’ve come this far so you might as well click HERE to see bad moments 5-1!  What Disney moment would you classify as the number one bad moment?

Hipster Disney Princesses

Deviantart is the best place ever for fanart and photography and traditional and digital art. It’s simply magnificent, and everybody’s so talented. So I was thrilled to discover this wonderful piece of art by Mayanna depicting the Disney Princesses in hipster style.

I think my favourite is Tiana or Meg! They’re so good! Anyway, this artist creates wonderful art, you should check her out! Especially if you like Harry Potter, Naruto, Death Note and Hetalia! Click the picture or go to the profile link below!

Disney Hunger Games

Sometimes I never know where to put an image when it crosses between two of our fandoms, but I think this is brilliant enough to put on both our Hunger Games site and our Disney site.

If you’re a fan of both, I think you’ll appreciate the great lengths this artist went through to draw this up.  Look at their hardened faces, too!  Notice the change of the mockingjay icon to something less birdlike and more fairylike.

The artist, blastedgoose, even put in little explanations for why each duo would be in those districts and for the most part, it works.

District 1 (Luxury) – Aladdin & Jasmine I had to choose characters who represented luxury, at the same time intimidating enough to be Careers. With themes like greed & temptation (Cave of Wonders) and Aladdin’s misguided notion that love be won with power and riches, they seemed to be a good fit.

District 2 (Masonry) – Shang & Mulan Shang and Mulan is the only Disney couple who are both military trained, so it makes sense they belong in the District that specializes in weapons and Capitol soldiers. Also, I can def see them as Careers.

District 3 (Technology) – Milo & Kida Who else imagined Beetee to look like Milo in the books? I did! I know Atlantis isn’t one of the more popular movies, but Milo and Kida fit in so well that I couldn’t leave them out! Plus the movie’s steam punk vibe totally fits the HG!

District 4 (Fishing) – Eric & Ariel Need I say more?

District 5 (Power) – Hercules & Meg Power has a triple meaning here. In the books, it refers to electricity, which goes hand in hand with the God of Thunder’s son. The second meaning is physical power, which Hercules possesses. Thirdly, the movie is all about the power of love, which is what drove Meg to sacrifice her life for Herc, and vice versa.

District 6 (Transportation) – Naveen & Tiana I thought of transportation here in an abstract sense. Of the Disney movies, the Princess and the Frog was the one that focused most on the concept of journey: the literal journey from the town to the Bayou and back, the emotional journey from ambition/greed to love, and the transformational journey from frog to human.

District 7 (Lumber) – Tarzan & Jane I know lumber comes from the forest and Tarzan is set in the jungle but SHUSH! It fits okay???

District 8 (Textile) – Charming & Cinderella Cinderella is basically a story about how a maid snagged a prince because she was wearing a nice outfit. Textiles = cloth = outfit. So there.

District 9 (Grain) – Beast & Belle This was the hardest to place. Beast and Belle fit NONE of the Districts, but they fell into the category of “how angry fans would be if I didn’t include him/her.” I tried to justify it by thinking that grain = seed = rose? Contrived but there you go. By the way… in this world, Beast is a muttation. When he was a child, he was affected by some radiation or whatever, but it only affected his physical appearance so he’s still eligible to compete in the HG.

District 10 (Livestock) – Quasimodo & Esmeralda Nothing too deep…I thought of Esmeralda’s goat and that was enough for me. Why not Phoebus? Because I hate him.

District 11 (Agriculture) – John Smith & Pocahontas Corn!

District 12 (Mining) – “The Prince” & Snow White The dwarfs were miners! Close enough! Oh and here’s some trivia for you. People think Cinderella and Snow White’s princes were both named “Charming” but actually, SW’s prince has never been referred to as such. He’s simply “the Prince.”

I’ve decided to take a poll on this then.  Which district would you say the victor would come from?  Vote below!

Ohana…

Lilo Pelekai is the main character from the Lilo and Stitch series. She’s a cute as a button 6 (eventually 7) year old Hawaiin girl. Here’s some really cool trivia about the movies…

  • ‘Lilo’ translates as ‘lost’ in Hawaiian which would give the title song “He Mele No Lilo” a loose translation as “Lullaby of the Lost”.
  • Lilo and Stitch was the first Disney animated feature to use (digital) watercolor-painted backgrounds since Dumbo.
  • Daveigh Chase, who voices Lilo, also voiced Chihiro in Spirited Away, and Samara Morgan from The Ring. Who’d have guessed, eh?
  • The majority of license plates in the film are A113. The same as Mrs. Davis’s plate number in Toy Story, Mater’s plate number in Cars, and also used in many other Disney and Pixar films. It is a reference to a room number at California Institute of the Arts, where many of the animators received their educations.
  • The characters pass the “Mulan Wok” and Nani has a “Mulan” poster on her bedroom wall. This is because of Lilo and Stitch was the second film to be made in the Orlando studio, the first being Mulan.
  •  Alan Silverstri (the composer of the music, who also worked on Forrest Gump) worked with a hula master, Mark Keali’i Hom’omalu on the musical score.
  • Jason Scott Lee (David) and Tia Carrere (Nani) were born in Hawaii, so helped with the accents and dialogue!
  • Chris Sanders, one of the directors, voices Stitch.

“Ohana means family, family means nobody gets left behind. Or forgotten”

Disney Inspired STUFF

Hello Fandom.net Readers!

First a brief introduction. I’m a new admin here on the Disney page, and my name is Jasveen. The rest we’ll learn on the way.

So a few days ago I was scrolling through my Dash on Tumblr when all of a sudden I spot this picture of these sweatshirts with iconic Disney moments printed on the front. I was in love.

And I know all of you are sitting at your desk oohing and ahhing at each one. I tried to track down the source of these sweatshirts so I could find some way to own them, only to find out that someone had used their amazing photoshop skills on these and that they weren’t actually for sale anywhere. All of my research did lead me to an entire world of Disney merchandise I never knew existed, especially Disney Couture Jewelry.

Each piece seems so personal and is extremely beautiful. The best part is all of them are so sophisticated and and the same time they’re geek chic.

Thought I would share this with you!

Who’s Your Disney Princess?

It would probably be easier to say which princess is your favorite princess if we go by the movie they starred in.  But, what if, perchance, they were turned into little fighting machines that could kick your butt to Mars and back?  What would they look like?  Would you still want to hang out with them?  I’m sure there is a number of fan art out there displaying our Disney princesses in ways we would never imagine (or maybe we would), but I found the following images to be very intriguing and fun and not so disgustingly perverted as some others may be.   joshwmc at DeviantART was able to capture the princesses in warrior/fighter-type gear and positions that are sexy, but not in-your-face sexy, which I think is quite cool.  Let’s see what you think!

Josh even provided a backstory for each of the princesses, which makes this kind of easy for me. :)

Rapunzel - An imprisoned sorceress who manages to escape her solitary confinement

Mulan - An assassin who's a master of disguise

Aurora - A professional wrestler called Briar Rose who goes by the in ring name of Aurora

Tiana - A military soldier who's entered the fighting tournament to prove she is capable of commanding her own unit

Pocahontas - An environmental activist and the descendant of a great Powhatan warrior, she enters the fighting tournament to literally fight for nature

Belle - Turned to self defense after being kidnapped and held hostage when she was younger, she's now a world champion kick-boxer

Jasmine - Enters a fighting tournament in order to avoid an arranged marriage and prove to her father the Sultan she herself is capable of leading her kingdom

Ariel - Sold her voice to the sea witch to become a fierce human warrior in order to participate in a global fighting tournament

Snow White - A Lisbeth Salander inspired tough girl who learned her street fighting skills growing up in the decaying suburbs of a desolate city overrun by the Seven Drug Lords

Cinderella - A ninja warrior
